Jealous Armpit

Last night, Stephanie and I took in a little television. Thanks to the wonders of Youtube, we can share this with our friends.

The show is called, "Irigy Hónaljmirigy," which Google Translate calls, "Jealous underarm glands."

We think it's a sketch comedy show spoofing one thing per episode. Last night: karate.

Here is a clip from last night's show.

On youtube, we encountered another segment that I will call, "My tractor is faster than your tractor."

Okay, readers from Magyarország, you have some explaining to do. What can you tell us about this?

  1. Sorry, I can't well speak english :-)
"My tractor is faster than your tractor." --> This shows the frustration and the simple targets of the tipical east-european hillbilly people.. --> drink something alcohol, overcome something ridiculous, petty thing to another human, and other such primitive, mundane pleasures, nothing lofty
This show illustrates the typical Eastern European rural lifestyle.

But this is not the average- I mean.

Who want more information about this (the grounds), please see these movies.

  2. The most fully realized response I have ever read concerning Eastern European lifestyle. Good job, Kata!!
Although these guys of "jelous armpit" are not my favorite, they do represent some stereotypical aspects of Hungarians:historical consciousness, contradiction, appreciation of good food and beverages, fine arts, and pessimism.

I prefer Sandor Fabry(he is somewhat similar to David Letterman here in the US), Janos Galvolgyi, Ivan Bagi/Oliver Nacsa, Gyorgy Markos and Miklos Galla.

  3. David, this is great! How did you find the jealous armpit glands? I think they are hilarious, the lyrics make you laugh. They always use well-known, or less-known but silly songs - these are mostly Hungarian ones and rewrite the lyrics and make a video for it. They are even on TV, I think they have a half/hour show every week, or every month.

Do you know the song in the tractor video? It is from a Serbian movie, Black Cat,white cat, directed by Emir Kusturica, who also directed Arizona dream (Johnny Depp and Faye Dunaway). The soundtrack of black cat, white cat was written and performed by Boban Markovic, who actually appears in the parody/video: he is the guy in white coat and the trumpet.

    Have fun!
